Policeman charged with rape

A police officer has appeared in court in Cumbria, charged with raping and indecently assaulting a schoolgirl.

Pc Kent Henderson, who is stationed in Carlisle, appeared before a judge at the city's crown court on Tuesday.

The offences are alleged to have happened between 1991 and 1995.

Pc Henderson is charged with rape, indecent assault and inciting a child to commit gross indecency.

He was not asked to enter a plea during the short hearing.

The case has been adjourned until 26 February for a plea and directions hearing.
