Call for more reports information
Jersey
The 2020.je report debated the island's future
Calls have been made for the creation of a list of reports and surveys which have been commissioned by the States in Jersey.

It is proposed the list should apply to consultants' reports costing more than £200,000 of taxpayers money.

The move is being suggested by Deputy Peter Troy.

He says it will serve two purposes: that people will be able to see what the States is doing, and it will help departments keep control of consultants' costs.

Jersey's administration has commissioned lots of reports and surveys, all of which are paid for by taxpayers.

One of the most well known examples was the 2020.je report, which was commissioned to develop future planning and economic scenarios for the island.

Though its findings will be used in long-term plans for Jersey, it caused a storm of controversy because it cost thousands of pounds and most politicians and the public were initially unaware of it.
