Road gritter driver named
Michael Briars
Safety procedures may be reviewed following Mr Briars' death
Police have named a road gritter driver who died after his vehicle overturned in Greater Manchester.

Michael Briars, 30, of Belgrave Road in New Moston, was trapped under the cab of his lorry following the accident in Saddleworth on Monday.

Emergency teams were called to Carr Lane in Diggle at about 0700 GMT.

It is believed that the vehicle rolled backwards before overturning.

In a statement released through police, Mr Briars family said: "Michael was a loving son, grandson, brother and uncle who will be missed greatly by all his family and friends.

"He had an older brother and was an uncle to two nieces, who he spoilt all the time.

"He was looking forward to Christmas and was planning to buy his own house in the near future."

Oldham Council has said it may review safety procedures for workers gritting the town's roads as a result of Mr Briar's death.

The Health and Safety Executive is conducting an investigation into the accident.
