Girl dies from meningitis
An eight-year-old girl from Oswestry has died after contracting meningitis.

Health officials are still carrying out tests to establish the exact form of the virus which killed Lucy Collins from Chirk.

But they believe it is an isolated case and are urging other families not to panic.

The youngster was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital last Friday after developing a high temperature at her home in Charles Street.

She was later transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool where she died on Saturday.

Parents of other children in Lucy's class at the Ceiriog school in Chirk, have been sent letters advising them to watch for any symptoms of meningitis and also not to be unduly alarmed.

Wrexham County Borough Council's director of education Terry Garner said his staff were working with local health officials to offer advice and support to parents and pupils.
