Work to start on bus station
The new bus station for Norwich should improve public transport in and around the city, county councillors believe.

Work on the new bus station will begin in the New Year and the existing site at Surrey Street will close on 25 January to allow demolition work to begin.

Norfolk County Council says it hopes the new bus station will be a "dramatic" improvement on the old site.

At present, the bus station only caters for one-way traffic, but the new station will allow buses to both enter from and leave onto Surrey Street and Queens Road, cutting journey times.

There will be a new travel office, secure bicycle storage, and improved access for pedestrians.

All the services which use the bus station at the moment will be re-routed.

It is hoped the new bus station will be open by spring 2005.
