A 25-year-old man who fired an airgun, hitting a woman in the leg, has avoided a prison sentence.
Gavin Hollins, from Smallbrook Road, Whitchurch, Shropshire, was told he "richly deserved" to be sent to prison, but was instead ordered to do 180 hours of community service.
Hollins pleaded guilty on Monday at Shrewsbury Crown Court to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
He admitted he was drunk when he fired out of a flat window, hitting a passer-by, Judith Bentley, in her thigh.
Another shot had narrowly missed a second woman.
The court accepted he had not aimed the gun at anyone.
Judge Desmond Perrett told Hollins he deserved to go to prison, but said some good things had been said about him during the case.
Hollins was also ordered to pay £500 compensation.
