Broker jailed for insurance scam
A motor-insurance broker who left more than 400 people driving without cover has been jailed for two and a half years.

Nottingham Crown Court heard that John Lynk, 31, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, was caught when one of his clients was involved in an accident.

Lynk, the owner of Millennium Lynk Insurance Services in Huthwaite, pleaded guilty to using false insurance proposal forms in 2001.

The prosecution said in court on Monday that he had unlawfully taken more than £250,000 from his clients.

A hearing to decide on whether any of his assets will be confiscated will be held next year.

Lynk told the police £60,000 had been stolen in a burglary at his home, and that he had also lost thousands of pounds through gambling.

Judge Richard Benson said Lynk had been involved "in a serious and deliberate piece of dishonesty".
