Ton of lead stolen

A ton of lead was among the unusual items stolen by burglars in a raid on a barn in East Sussex.

Sussex Police said the lead, a tar boiler and a canopy were stolen from a barn off of Douglas Road in Rotherfield between 9 and 29 December.

They said the items had a combined value of about £600.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the items taken is asked to contact Sussex Police.


Moped theft warning

Moped owners in Crawley, West Sussex, are being warned to secure their vehicles following a spate of thefts in the area.

Over the last six weeks Sussex Police said around two mopeds a day had been stolen on average mainly from the Bewbush and Broadfield areas.

A number of mopeds have been recovered in Buchan Park, just off the Horsham Road, on the western edge of Crawley.

The thefts have continued over the Christmas


Sheep stranded in floods

More than 70 sheep were trapped on flooded farmland as heavy rainfall saw flood warnings issued all over East Sussex on Sunday.

The animals were grazing in a field in Robertsbridge when a combination of wet weather and rising river levels left them stranded.

It took East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service three hours to save the 72 sheep from the flooded field.

Farmers in flood danger areas were advised to move livestock to higher ground on Sunday.


Girl missing from children's home

A teenage girl has gone missing from a children's home near Gatwick.

Sussex Police said they are concerned for 13-year-old Jane Forrestal who was last seen on 12 December at the home in Balcombe Road.

When she was last seen she was wearing a white and red sweater, black trousers and a light blue coat.

She has strong links with the Ealing and Southall and there is an unconfirmed sighting of her on Christmas Eve.
