Speed cameras off for Christmas
Road safety campaigners hope motorists will keep to the speed limits in Telford and Wrekin over Christmas despite a reduction in the number of speed cameras operating in the town.

From Monday West Mercia Safety Camera Partnership will be scaling down its patrols for a week.

Of the 25 sites in the town currently patrolled by the partnership's officers only two will be monitored by a mobile camera.

The group's static cameras in Bennetts Bank, Wellington, will also remain in use.

Linda Burgess, administrator for the partnership, said: "We don't want people to feel they can put their foot down, our message remains the same: 'keep your speed within the limits'."

She added: "The police are still around and will be keeping their eyes on road users."

She said the reduction in enforcement had been caused by staff entitlement to holidays.
