Home for mentally ill to open
A new £1m centre for people with mental health problems will be opened in Telford in the new year.

The 12-bed unit will be housed in the former Castle Lodge home for the elderly at Dawley which was more recently used as offices.

It will be managed and run by a team of nurses working closely with local GPs and psychiatric specialists.

The first patients will be admitted from 4 January.

John Short, director of mental health for Shropshire, said the new centre would mean fewer patients from Telford having to travel to Shrewsbury for treatment.
