Stormy forecast for art show

The installation will run every evening for four months

A wind-powered lightning storm is to light up London's South Bank.

The free outdoor light-and-sound display, powered by a 100-feet-high wind turbine will thunder through trees each evening for the next four months.

People walking in Jubilee Gardens will find themselves inside the Shell Electric Storm - which includes "ambient music and sound".

The installation is designed to react to the wind, humidity, temperature, barometric pressure and the tide.

The display runs through two rows of trees for half a kilometre and the illuminated mist will be visible from County Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and Waterloo Bridge.

Those behind the show, which will be switched on at 1700 GMT on Tuesday, hope it will help change the way people think about renewable energy.

Clive Mather, Shell UK chairman said: "Shell Electric Storm will bring to life the tremendous potential of renewable energy sources and the future world of wind energy.

"It will demonstrate clearly the power that comes from just one wind turbine."

Shell says the display will be reminiscent of the Northern Lights.
