Address warning from ambulances

Ambulance crews say people should make directions clear
People in Jersey are being warned by the island's ambulance service that lives could be at risk if people do not adequately show house names and numbers.

Paramedics are launching a new campaign to ensure they are able to find emergency cases quickly.

The ambulance service is asking islanders to make sure their house names and numbers are displayed prominently so they are able to find them.

The service also says people calling 999 should make sure they give the best possible directions they can when they are making their emergency call to make it easier for paramedics to find patients.

Station officer John Sutherland said: "I would say that, mostly, it's not a problem and in most cases we can find places.

"But there are occasions where there simply isn't a name up at all, or a name is obscured by foliage or parked vehicles.

"Another common problem is when the house-number is on the door but it's painted the same colour as the door.

"It makes it very difficult to identify addresses, particularly at night."
