Armed siege
Officers were fired on by the man at the house in Trowbridge
Police in Wiltshire have fired shots into a house where an armed man has locked himself inside.

It is believed that the suspect is injured, although the extent of his injuries is not known. Earlier on Monday, the man fired shots from the house.

A large number of officers, including firearms officers, have been at the scene in Cross Street, Trowbridge, since midnight on Sunday.

Several hostages were taken, although an 18 month old toddler has since been released unharmed, and one hostage was seen climbing safely from a window.

By 1300 GMT on Monday there were no hostages in the house.

Police say the incident is connected to an armed robbery in Dursley in Gloucestershire on Sunday.

Part of the town centre has been sealed off and people living nearby have been warned by officers to stay in their homes.

Chief Inspector Nick Ashley told the BBC: "As far as we are aware, the man is alive in the house.

"We are trying to negotiate his surrender."
