Part of a town centre in Wiltshire has been sealed off as police deal with an armed incident.
A large number of police officers, including firearms officers, are at the scene of the incident in Trowbridge.
The incident, which began at midnight on Sunday, is centred on a house in Cross Street in the town centre.
Nearby Timbrell Street has been closed off, police said, and people living nearby have been warned by officers to stay in their homes.
Wiltshire Police say the incident is connected with an armed robbery in the town on Sunday.
'Local doctor'
A spokesman said: "A man, thought to be armed, is now occupying a house in Cross Street, and is holding several people hostage."
"Police firearms officers and trained negotiators are at the scene and are in contact with the man."
At around 1000 GMT on Monday, a baby boy who had been held hostage was released.
"He has been taken to a local doctor for a thorough health check, but at this time, he is thought to be uninjured and well. Negotiations with the armed man are still ongoing," said the spokesman.
At 1245, the spokesman added officers had come under fire from the house. There were no remaining hostages in the house at the time.
