Guernsey police are trying to trace witnesses to a fatal car crash.

One person died in the three car pile up, which happened just after midnight on Saturday.

Daniel Machon, 17, was killed and four people were seriously injured in the three-car accident on Forest Road, between St Peter Port and the island's airport.

Police, who are interviewing a number of witnesses and conducting door-to-door enquiries, want to trace a pedestrian who was in the area just before the collision.

Face and back injuries

It is believed the pedestrian may have valuable information about the collision.

Firefighters and paramedics spent more than two hours freeing people from the wreckage and five ambulances were needed to ferry the casualties to hospital.

Floral tributes have been placed at the scene of the crash, where Daniel Machon was pronounced dead.

An inquest into his death will take place on Friday.

The four other people seriously injured remain in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in a stable condition.

Two teenagers are being treated for serious leg injuries, a 21-year-old man suffered multiple fractures and a 20-year-old man is being treated for facial and spinal injuries.

Two other people escaped uninjured from the crash.

Investigations into the crash are continuing and Guernsey Police say anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they feel it is, should contact them.
