The funeral has taken place of the much-loved Manchester entertainer Frank 'Foo Foo' Lammar.

Stars including Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, former England football captain Bryan Robson and the actress Sue Johnson were among those paying their respects.

The drag artist died 10 days ago following a long battle against cancer.

Hundreds of people lined the streets as the cortege made its way through the city to Corpus Christi basilica in Miles Platting, Manchester.

Mr Lammar - real name Francis Pearson - was also known for his charity work and raised about £4m for good causes during his 65 years.

He was born the son of a rag-and-bone man in the Ancoats area of the city and left school with no qualifications before pursuing a career in showbusiness.

He eventually ran a string of clubs in Manchester and achieved top billing with stars such as Danny La Rue.

The memorial service was followed by a private burial at the family grave in Gorton.
