Delays during bridge work
Road works
Motorists face long delays as road work on the A40 begins.
Motorists driving on the A40 are likely to face delays for the next 12 months as maintenance work on four bridges gets under way in Oxford.

From Monday, the Highways Agency will be re-surfacing, waterproofing and strengthening bridges at Cassington Halt, Dukes Cut, Wolvercote Canal as well as the Wolvercote Railway Bridge.

Safety fences will be installed, the embankments will be strengthened and access steps from the South side of the road to the canal will also be replaced.

The work is expected to last up to a year.

The Highways Agency says both lanes of the A40 will remain open most of the time, but will occasionally need to be reduced to a single lane.
