The newly enthroned Bishop of Lichfield, says the Church of England needs to attract more young people.
The Right Reverend Jonathan Gledhill, 54, is the former Bishop of Southampton, and the 98th holder of the historic post.
He was enthroned in a ceremony at Lichfield Cathedral on Saturday.
Bishop Jonathan says attracting young worshippers will be one of the churche's biggest challenges.
"In many cases young people have deserted our churches and we have to do something about it."
The new bishop is a former student at Keele University in Staffordshire and was a member of the Christian Union at Keele before training at theological college.
The diocese covers most of Shropshire, Staffordshire and parts of the West Midlands.
