Teacher found hanged
A teacher was found hanged just days after reportedly being accused of slapping a pupil.

Stewart Logan, 44, had been suspended from his job on Monday for allegedly hitting a teenage boy at Rothesay Academy, Isle of Bute.

A spokeswoman for Argyll and Bute education authority said the school was in a "state of shock and grieving".

Mr Logan was head of the English department and had been at the school for more than 15 years.

His body was found on Wednesday at his cottage near the school.

The spokeswoman said: "We can confirm a teacher at Rothesay Academy was temporarily suspended on Monday pending inquiries.

"The authority will consider whether anything more needs to be done at an appropriate time."

Mr Logan was said to be a popular member of the teaching staff who was responsible for publicity and organising events.

"The school is in a state of shock and grieving and supportive counselling is being made available to pupils and staff," the spokeswoman said.

Education Minister Peter Peacock said he was "saddened" to hear of Mr Logan's death.

"I offer my sympathies to all those affected. My officials will be liaising with Argyll and Bute Council over the incident," he added.

Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
