The police are appealing for information following separate violent robberies in east Belfast.

A man was punched and kicked during an armed robbery in the Ballyhackamore area of the city at about 2300 GMT on Friday.

He was set upon from behind by two men as he was returning to his car after getting cash from a bank machine.

The pair, one of whom had a knife, dragged him into an alleyway where he was assaulted and had his wallet stolen.

The assailants then ran of in the direction of the Newtownards Road.

Police say one of the attackers is aged about 20, 5' 7" tall, of slim build and was wearing dark trousers with a light grey fleece.

Mobile phones

Meanwhile, a couple were assaulted in a separate robbery in the east of the city.

Three men have been arrested following the incident outside the Odyssey Centre at about 2130 GMT on Friday.

The men tried to steal the couple's mobile phones during the incident at Queen's Quay, during which the man was punched and had his wallet stolen.

The men arrested were later released on bail.
