Top art work for sale
Ceri Richards' portrait of Esther
Ceri Richards's portrait of Esther is priced at £15,000
Artwork valued at £1m has gone on sale in Wales' capital city.

The collection of limited edition prints by some of the 20th Century's most famous artists was out on the market in a three-day sale held in Cardiff.

Over 1,000 framed pieces were made available including work by Warhol, Picasso and Hockney.

And a special centenary exhibition featuring the works of Welsh artist Ceri Richards and John Piper was also on offer.

Mike Goldmark, organised the sale for print dealers Goldmarkart at Jacob's Antique Centre in the city.

"There was £1m worth of artwork offered," he said.

"And we have had a very positive response from people who came.

"We sold a tremendous spectrum of art work and have had loads of people asking us to come back.

"We are really pleased with the amount that was sold although we can't say for certain how much went yet," he said.

The cheapest artwork started at £50 with the most expensive piece being a portrait by Ceri Richards of his sister Esther with a price tag of £15,000.

"We had a buyer for the Ceri Richards piece and they were very happy with what they bought - they thought it was a snip," he added.

"We have never put on such a sale before but it was a wonderful experience."
