United's tribute to crash victims
The McCoig-Lees family
Son Matt said the match would be a real highlight
Manchester United have played against Ledbury Town in a tribute to three family members who died in a motorway minibus crash.

Martin and Denise McCoig-Lees, 47, and their nine-year-old son Ryan, from Ledbury, Herefordshire, were killed in the accident on 10 July.

They were among seven people who died when a minibus taking them to Manchester Airport crashed on the M56.

The Premiership champions agreed to play the friendly against Ledbury Town on Thursday night as Martin McCoig-Lees was a dedicated United supporter.

The teams paused for a minutes' silence before the match
Matt McCoig-Lees, 19, who lost his parents and younger brother in the accident, said he was pleased United came to Ledbury to show their support.

"They've helped us so much, it's good that they can share in our happiness with a little tinge of sadness."

Relative Jeremy McCoig-Lees added it would be good for community spirit.

You wish Martin and Denise and Ryan were here

"It's emotional on the grounds that you wish Martin and Denise and Ryan were here and this wasn't happening at all.

"It's marvellous for everybody concerned really. It's good for the town, it's a good community thing."

Manchester United's Mark Lynch said he was pleased to be raising money for a good cause.

Speaking after the match he said: "The lads are buzzing to be here. It's good to get a game that's for such a good cause and raise some money for the lads involved."

Both sides said they were happy with the final 4-2 United win.

"We created a lot of chances but fair play to Ledbury, they played well as well," United's captain Turner added.
