Neighbour saves woman from fire
A woman was rescued from a flat fire by a quick-thinking neighbour.

The fire broke out at about 0145 GMT on Friday in the three-storey Severnside Housing apartments in Water Street in Castlefields, Shrewsbury.

A neighbour heard a smoke alarm, realised something was wrong, and managed to get the door of the first floor flat open.

He discovered the occupant, a woman in her 30s, slumped inside the smoke-filled flat and dragged her to safety.

She is receiving hospital treatment for the effects of breathing in smoke.

Firefighters have praised her neighbour's actions, but are warning people not to put their own lives at risk when dealing with fires.

An investigation has begun into the what caused the fire.
