A 66-year-old Devon man has appeared in court charged with murdering his wife.

Alan Wickenden, from Down St Mary near Crediton, was charged with killing Janet Wickenden on Thursday morning.

Mrs Wickenden, 69, died from head injuries at Stoke Woods at Stoke Canon on the outskirts of Exeter.

There was no bail application and Mr Wickenden was remanded in custody by Exeter magistrates.

He will next appear at Exeter Crown Court for a preliminary hearing later this month.
