Iraq

The Foreign Secretary has been in Washington, discussing the situation in Iraq. President Bush said that he was trying to speed up the transition to control by Iraqis themselves.

We examined how that could be done.

Ahmed Zakayev

The Russian Government has been severely embarrassed by the decision of a British judge to refuse to extradite an alleged Chechen terrorist. The judge described Ahmed Zakayev, a former Deputy Prime Minister of Chechnya, as a moderate who the Russian Government was prosecuting for political reasons.

Is this just another example of a breakdown in the rule of law in Russia?

Education

The Government is keen to persuade middle-class parents not to emulate London MP Diane Abbott and abandon state education for the private sector.

We reported on the latest plans for improving failing schools in the capital.
