SEA manifesto

SEA wants more support for the unemployed
Support must be given to those disadvantaged people left behind by the political process, the Socialist Environmental Alliance (SEA) has said.

In its manifesto for the 26 November Northern Ireland Assembly election, the party said it wanted to give a voice to those left out in the cold.

The party's Foyle candidate Eamonn McCann said it could win a seat in the constituency.

He added: "Winning a seat won't be easy. We do not have the resources of the four big-money parties. But we have a dedicated and growing team of election workers, and growing indications of support.

"More than any of the other candidates, we need first preferences to stay in the race. We are asking people to give us their number ones. After that, of course, voters can go on to indicate their choice between other parties and candidates."

The SEA said it wanted to give a voice to "the unemployed; the underpaid; people with disabilities; marginalised young people; isolated old people and families whose homes are to be flattened because they stand in the way of big business, people thrown out of work as jobs are shifted to Third World sweat-shops".

"The way things presently work in politics here, those left behind are lumped in with the better-off in their 'own' community," Mr McCann said at the manifesto launch.
