Meeting over surgery closures
A protest meeting is being held near Millom after several hundred people were told they would have to change doctors.

The meeting was being held in The Green on Wednesday over concerns about the merging of the Broughton-in-Furness and Kirby practices.

Doctors have decided to cut the furthest-flung parts of their list because they cannot provide a safe service to such a large area.

County councillor Sue Brown, who represents the Wicham area, said number of people, including her own parents, had been affected.

'Nice surgery'

She said she was concerned that patients had not been consulted.

Ms Brown said: "People should have a choice of doctor.

"My parents were happy with who they were with, but they and other people are not being given the chance.

"Many people are saying they don't want to go as far as Bootle or Seascale...what's left but Millom.

"Millom is a very nice surgery, but the fact is people should have a choice and they are not being given it."
