Girl survives kidnap attempt
Police officer
Specially-trained officers are now interviewing the girl to find out more
A nine-year-old girl is recovering after a man tried to lead her into his car.

The man, who was driving a red car, stopped to speak to the child before getting out and taking hold of her by the shoulders.

A woman passer-by intervened and he fled, leaving his victim shocked but unhurt.

Police are very keen to trace the woman after the abduction attempt in Portswood, Southampton on Monday.

They are also appealing for anyone who saw the incident near Highfield Church Hall at 1600 GMT to get in touch.

The girl, who described the man as Asian, is being interviewed by specially-trained officers to find out more about what happened.

Officers are also calling on houses in the area to search for witnesses.
