Police are searching for a man who tried to drag a 14-year-old girl into his car.
It happened as the youngster was walking home from shops in Wiclif Way, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, at about 2015 GMT on Tuesday.
As she drew level with a car, a man asked her for directions then tried to drag her towards the vehicle.
Police are treating the incident as an attempted abduction.
The girl broke free and raise the alarm.

The man police are looking for is described as white, about 40-years-old, with a shaved head.
He was unshaven, with dark stubble with flecks of grey, and was wearing a dark sweater and blue jeans.
He was muscular and the girl said the offender was taller than her height of 5 ft 2 in.
His car may be a grey Peugeot 405 with a distinctive black line round it.
Detective Sergeant Pete Hill said: "We are anxious to trace this man and would appeal for anyone who recognises the description, or who saw a vehicle matching this description in the area, to contact us.
"We are treating this as an attempted abduction."
He added: "We do not want to cause undue alarm but we do impress on parents of young people the need to make them aware of their personal safety."
