Faulty instrument caused plane scare
Leeds Bradford Airport
The aircraft had to return minutes after take off
A faulty instrument has been blamed for an aircraft having to make an emergency landing at Leeds Bradford Airport on Tuesday evening.

The BMI British Midlands flight to Paris had just taken off from the West Yorkshire airport around 1800 GMT when an instrument indicated a problem.

A warning light in the cockpit showed a possible fuel problem and the crew decided to turn back.

A full scale emergency was launched at the airport with fire crews on stand-by.

The aircraft landed safely 15 minutes after take off and no one on board was injured.

Aircraft engineers have now carried out an investigation and the airline says an instrument malfunction caused the scare.

Passengers were given the option of transferring to other flights on Tuesday evening or waiting until Wednesday to continue their journeys.
