Caravan park expansion plan on hold
Plans to expand a Cumbrian caravan park have been put on hold.

The proposals for the Lakeland Leisure Park, in Flookburgh, in the Lake District were due to be discussed by South Lakeland District Council this week.

But the development is said to be so big, that many organisations must be consulted. Several have yet to respond.

The site currently has space for more than 700 caravans and the plans would mean another 250 being added.

Bourne Leisure, which runs the site, is prepared to spend £3.5m and says the development would create 87 jobs.

The proposals also include a nine-hole golf course, a bar extension and adventure area. It would be phased in over eight years.

Bourne Leisure says the caravan park brings nearly £2m a year into the area.

It says the proposals would create nearly 60 jobs on the site and others elsewhere, bringing another £500,000 a year into the local economy.
