Roads claim two more lives

Two men have died in separate road accidents in Northern Ireland.

A 40-year-old man died at Dromara, County Down, on Tuesday evening and another man died in an earlier accident in Antrim.

In Dromara, the man who died was walking along the Hillsborough Road when he was struck by a car at 1850 GMT.

Two other people who were walking with him were injured.

The accident happened in heavy rain on Tuesday evening and police warned motorists to keep their speed down because of surface water on many roads.

Earlier on Tuesday, a man died in a road accident in Antrim.

Raymond Lynn, 63, from Cedar Mount, Antrim, died in the incident on the Steeple Road in the town.

Another man who was injured in the accident was taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said that his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

The deaths bring to 139 the number of people who have died on the roads so far this year, compared to 117 for the same period last year.
