Goody and Ingram ended up in harmony
|
Former Big Brother star Jade Goody and disgraced ex-army Major Charles Ingram starred in a celebrity edition of Channel 4's hit show Wife Swap at 2100GMT on Tuesday.
Goody, who made her name in the third series of Big Brother, admitted she did not always get on with Ingram - quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? cheat and convicted fraudster.
"He was very irritating, very controlling, and he kept talking about how he did a lot round the house, but he never did anything to help me," she said.
In turn, Ingram said living with Goody was "quite tough", but that in the end he had developed a "strong respect" for her.

Highly amusing, Charles came across as a bit of a damp squib, Diana quite a good laugh, and not half bad once a bit relaxed, Jade, ignorant and vile, yet sometimes insightful, while Jeff was genuinely a nice person. Those who dislike people like this need not watch them, and to Andy who suggests £5 on licence fee shouldn't pay for this kind of TV can take heart in the fact that Channel 4 is independent and relies on advertising for income - its not the BBC!

not a patch on the 'real' families put together. This seemed staged and over acted by Jade and the Ingrams. It really was a load of rubbish but I watched it - should I then judge it ! NO - as always my attitude to TV critics is, if you don't like it switch it off ...........

Entertainment...that's what it was and all it was ever supposed to be. Why try to analyse it as something more than that!!??
Made me chuckle myself to sleep....
Every instalment of Wife Swap just makes me thank God each time for my own husband and my own wonderful life.

Loved the coughing from punters in the background while Mrs Ingram and Jeff played the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire game machine at the pub. Go on the Great British public and their sense of humour!

I can't believe Major Ingram actually cheated whilst playing "...Millionaire" with his kids!

The 'Minger' made Charles look so intelligent you'd think he didn't need to cheat. Compulsive viewing that will never be admitted to.
Bill Marsh,
Was worth Jade's annoying habit on squawking on and on and on (albeit heavily pregnant so maybe we can just blame the hormones?) just to see the high points - including Jeff taking Diana to play on the Millionaire quiz machine in the pub, Charles' reaction to being told he 'flaps' and even their kids opinion on whether their parents are cheats. Hilarious!

Nice to see that an disgraced army major, who is found guilty of trying to defraud Who wants to be a millionaire is still a big enough celebrity to still be on our telly screens. Its disgusting.

Is it any wonder that TV 'entertainment' is going down the tubes when all it takes to become a celebrity now ie spending weeks locked away in a house or a criminal conviction.
Gareth Bevan, UK
Thought about watching it but the adverts put me off, Jade's voice just went through me and didn't think I could stomach a full hour of her. I find that putting the Ingrams on telly after what they did a complete sham.

I only watched this useless, vacuous junk because my recently widowed mother wanted to. This programme was the final proof {should it be needed} that the word Celebrity is now as shallow, empty and redundant as some of the peoples lives it is holding up to us to admire. Can anyone involved in making this artless waste of time take any pride in their work? well it pays the mortgage eh folks?

I thought it was great. I saw a different side to both Jade and the Ingrams. I was particularly impressed with Jade adapting to the middle class life of the Ingrams and of Diana Ingram coming out of her shell the way she did.
I don't usually watch Wife Swap but this was an interesting programme.

Reality TV has become mind-numbing at this stage now but last nights show was a bit of an insight. Yes, the major's wife came across as less than frosty (even though the major still came over as a bit of a prat) and Jeff was a sweetheart, I think praise should be due to Jade. I know we all love to ridicule her and yes, her mouth is open before her brain is in gear, but personal traits aside, I think she came across as a real trouper. She did her best to cook and clean despite being heavily pregnant and was very tender and affectionate with the children, who seemed really relaxed in her company and wanted to carry on taking them to school even when she could have shirked that responsibility in the second half of the show.
She's easy to ridicule, there's no doubt about that, but we should give her a break!

Something made me watch this programme and I don't know what - I suppose it was due to the tabloid news recently regarding the major. The only thing I couldn't understand was how the hell does Jeff puts up with a winging, moaning Jade all of the time. The boy needs a pat on the back and a medal. As for the major he deserves all he gets.

Totally disgusting. I ended up watching Life of grime instead, as it didn't turn my stomach as much!

Nothing short of prostitution! I hope that they (Ingrams) got paid a lot of money to do it. Reminds me of a certain Ex-Tatton MP.

What a laugh! I saw a different side to Diana Ingram though when she came out of her shell. It was insightful of her to admit that people see her as arrogant when she doesn't mean to appear so.

Play-acted by the Ingrams and innocent ignorance by Jade. Will they never learn that TV is not good for them? The only person who came out of this well was Jeff. "Cook that egg more or you'll get semolina!" Priceless.

I had no intention of lowering myself to watch this programme, but ashamed as I am, I quickly turned over to see Jade chomping with mouth open on some food the ex-Major had cooked. That was enough for me! For once I felt sorry for Mr Ingram having to put up with ''minger'' Jade.

When will it end....

Well I haven't seen the programme and don't intend to, but can someone explain to me how either of these two can be described as celebrities? Someone who didn't quite win a reality TV show and someone who didn't quite cheat successfully on a quiz - don't see what there is to celebrate there. Perhaps it's because they've been on TV, in which case, I qualify for celebrity status myself, the back of my head being clearly visible during a 1990 episode of BBC1's Holiday Programme. Or would "Shameless Publicity-Seeker Wife Swap" be too much of a title?

Is it just me or are the Ingrams set to be the new equivalent of Neil Hamilton and wife? Almost always on the telly and on cheap ratings orientated shows (I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here). When will the audience wake up and see that the producers are paying a lot of money to these fraudsters for our entertainment?

This edition had almost no conflict but was just an enthralling as the others - admittedly because micro-celebs are more interesting voyeur material than real people.
I wasn't surprised to hear that Jade and Jeff had (temporarily) separated after the show - Jeff was absolutely delightful, charm personified, whereas Jade sulks and gurns and yells in pidgin English if she doesn't get her way.
The Ingrams succeeded in their stated aim to start their Great Public Rehabilitation - they seemed nice and well-meaning, older than their years perhaps but I ended up feeling sorry for Diana when people in the pub started coughing at her and thought, "Hasn't the poor woman suffered enough!" And I never thought I'd say that...

Major Ingram seemed to try and portray himself as a Neil Hamilton figure - bumbling and making references to sex at inappropriate times. Didn't entirely pull it off though. Clearly even his kids believe he cheated on Millionaire. His wife came across well though, she was a good sport. Jade and Jeff came across as well as ever.

The most telling moment for me was when Mr Ingram's children were asked if their father cheated. Their reaction was priceless!

These set-up Reality TV shows are now so desperate to create situations with maximum tension potential that they create a wife-swap between a very young couple with no children and a more upper-class, approaching middle-age couple with teenage children. It would barely be possible to find two more diametrically opposed extremes.
In some cases, watching how strangers interact with each other when forced into a situation can make Wife Swap interesting as well as entertaining but this particular one was done purely for the entertainment value and I found it as dull as some particularly dull dishwater (in a dimly lit room). That said, I think they all came out of it as reasonably pleasant people - Ms. Goody excepting, maybe. "The Major's Wife"- as she is always referred to - actually seemed a really nice woman, flying in the face of her public persona.

Two people known only for their stupidity didn't tempt me to watch it.
Roger, UK
I would love to see the look on their faces when they watched this!! They were depicted for the shallow people that they are and obviously have no shame.

Cheap, trashy entertainment - a guilty pleasure. I thought Charles Ingram should have done more to help Jade, considering she was heavily pregnant. The relationship between Diana Ingram and Jeff was actually quite sweet. The Ingrams are obviously publicity hungry - that seems to be the only way they know of dealing with their situation. Jade and Jeff are a laugh
Fiona, UK
My only thoughts about the show are: How can the government justify raising the cost of a TV licence by £5 when this is the standard of show that is being broadcasted? Teaming up the most annoying woman in D-list reality television with an infamous cheat does not count as quality television in my book. Even watching one of the countless re-runs is more entertaining.
Andy Wilkinson, UK
I thought all came across very well, although Jade is a little too quick to fly off the handle and I feel a bit sorry for Jeff! They both seemed to get on with their swaps really well and it's almost like Jade and Charles argued for the sake of arguing in the kitchen. I thought Jeff was really sweet and kind-hearted and I really liked Charles's wife who was fair and willing to 'have a go', loved it when she livened up in the nightclub! Very entertaining, bring on the next Celeb Wife Swap!
Claire, London, UK
While wife swap endeavours to show us how people from different social standings interact has little merit. Watching a criminal and a less than sectioned life form was just painful. In the end I had to take solace in The West Wing.
Julian , England
I thought the show was good. It made me see Diana in a different light in the way that she admitted that she was aware that she can come across as arrogant and would like to change that. What became clear is that she and the major are well suited and clearly adore one another. However, I feel Jade and Jeff are not so well suited because Jade seems to win arguments by talking over people and shouting a lot. The major did well at times to hold his ground. A lot of what she said in the programme was almost inaudible because of her squawking. I think Jeff must have the patience of a saint! All in all, an entertaining programme, more please.

What a repulsive bunch!

Great TV as always by the WS team, particularly the brief sequence talking to the Ingram kids, with what looked like the eldest laughing hysterically when asked if their parents cheated on the Millionaire Show. Superb!
