A 60-year-old man is critically ill in hospital
A 61-year-old Northampton man has been charged with attempted murder after a double shooting in the town.

Two men were arrested after police were called to Watkin Terrace just after 1400 GMT on Monday.

Terry Marriott, of Watkin Terrace, appeared before Northampton magistrates on Wednesday charged with two counts of attempted murder, arson and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Northampton Crown Court on Tuesday.

The second man, who is in his 70s, was released without charge on Tuesday.

Derry Tew, 60, from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, remains in a critical but stable condition in a specialist hospital unit in Oxford following the incident.

A second injured man, a 58-year-old from the Northampton area, was released from hospital after treatment for minor injuries.
