Sixth-form campus gets go-ahead
Plans have been unveiled for a new multi-million pound sixth form academy in Derby.

The building will form part of Derby College and include a lecture theatre, information technology suites and science laboratories.

The new site would see 700 A level students transferred from the Mackworth campus.

David Hughes, executive director of the Derbyshire Learning and Skills Council said: "Not enough young people stay in learning after the age of 16 and not enough young people get what they want.

"So we want to provide more choice, better quality, leading to better outcomes for them, so they can go on to university, get into skilled jobs and they can do the best they possibly can in their lives.

"It'll be a vibrant exciting place to be with the best possible facilities for learning."

The learning and skills council is putting up half of the £13m needed to build the academy.
