Anger over triple death crashes
People living near the main Oxford to Reading road have called for a reduced speed limit after three people were killed there in as many days.

Two people died in a crash on the A4074 at the village of Cane End, near Reading in Berkshire, at 0100 GMT on Tuesday.

The accident, which has closed the road, comes after another on Sunday in which a woman died when she was hit by a car as she walked along the southbound carriageway near the Oratory School.

The driver of the car was not hurt.

The residents of Cane End would like some relief from the frequent visits from the air ambulance
Roger Penfold, parish council

It is believed the latest victims were in a van that careered off the road and struck a tree after a collision with a heavy goods vehicle near The Fox pub.

Members of Kidmore End Parish Council have made fresh calls for officials to cut the speed limit.

Roger Penfold, clerk of the parish council, told the BBC: "The residents of Cane End would certainly like some relief from the frequent and unfortunate visits from the air ambulance.

"I would also like to see the council resurrect its proposal to impose a 40mph speed limit, which they did moot two years ago.

"Sadly I have heard nothing more from them on this project."

A spokeswoman for Oxfordshire County Council said: "A scrutiny working party is looking at a speed management strategy for Oxfordshire, including Cane End."
