A 61-year-old man is being held in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.
It follows the death of a 64-year-old woman at her flat in Orchard Close, Thaxted in Essex.
The incident happened on Thursday evening.
Essex Police say the man and the woman were known to one another.
