A man shot dead in west London on Friday night has been formally identified by police.

Gamal Fares George Mallwi, 44, died after being shot as he got into a car near the Light House fish bar in West Kensington at about 2030 GMT.

Mr Mallwi, a chip shop owner, died shortly after in hospital. His brother Gnasser Mallwi, 36, who was with him when the shooting happened, is stable.

A man was seen running away from the scene of the shooting in Thaxton Road.

Gunshot wounds

Police believe both men were about to get into the older man's car in Thaxton Road, at the junction with North End Road, when a suspect approached them and fired shots, which hit both of them.

A post-mortem examination which took place on Saturday revealed that George Mallwi died from gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest.

The 44-year-old was a businessman who had a seven-year-old daughter and lived in West Brompton in west London.

He and his brother were both from Cairo, Egypt.

A police spokeswoman said they were keeping an "open mind" about the motive for the shootings.

A murder inquiry has been launched.
