Thieves broke into a garage in Jersey formerly owned by the Five Oaks Group and stole spare parts worth about £4,000.
Police say tyres, fuel filters, front grills, car batteries and stereos were taken from the garage in the parish of St John between Friday night and Saturday morning.
A large yellow industrial steam cleaner worth more than £1,000 was also taken from the garage on Les Route des Issues.
Most of the parts were for Peugeot vehicles and police want to hear from anyone who is offered any items for sale or saw anything suspicious in the area.
On Friday, the Jackson's Channel Islands Motor Group announced it was taking over the car dealerships on Jersey and Guernsey formerly owned by the troubled Five Oaks Group.
About 250 jobs were under threat after Five Oaks' garages on both islands stopped trading last weekend.
But businessman Tom Scott has said that he hopes to save 200 jobs
after the deal was struck.
The dealership at St Peters is to re-open on Monday.
