Woman, 97, attacked in flat
A 97-year-old woman is in hospital with two broken bones after being attacked at her home.

The woman answered the door of her sheltered accomodation flat in Bickerdike Court on Erneley Close, Longsight, on Friday afternoon, when her attacker punched her in the face.

She fell, he entered the flat and stole cash before leaving.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the attack.

The woman, who has not been identified, lived alone at the flat.

She was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary, where her condition is described as poorly but stable.

Her jaw and hip were broken in the attack, and she is now awaiting surgery.

Speaking about the attack Detective Inspector Mark Willdigg from Greater Manchester Police said: "This is a disgusting and despicable attack on a frail and defenceless elderly lady."

He appealed for anyone with information to contact police or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
