Police target unlicensed minicabs
Five people have been arrested in north London as part of the latest crackdown on illegal minicabs.

In a joint operation with Enfield Council on Friday night, more than 50 vehicles were stopped in the Edmonton area.

And council and road traffic officers were on hand to remove unsafe cars.

The police are trying to reduce the 155 rapes and sexual assaults which involved illegal minicab drivers in the past year.

Detective Sergeant Jeremy McDonald told BBC London: "This is part of a long-term initiative in Enfield to reduce sexual offences.

"We've not had a single offence involving minicab drivers in Enfield since the last operation which was six months ago."
