Station plans go to consultation
Campaigners opposed to a new police station in a Leicester park are celebrating the plans being put out to public consultation.

Police want to build on Spinney Hill Park to replace the outdated 19th Century Asfordby Road station.

But many, including members of the Conservative and Liberal Democrats who are now in power on the city council, oppose the plans on the grounds of the loss of park space.

The Leicester Civic Society says the decision to ask the views of more than 15,000 residents in the area is the right one.

John Burrows from the society said: "I am delighted that the proposed building has gone out for consultation, it's long overdue.

"The site in the park should never have been considered in the first place because it is designated public open space."
