Man jailed for killing wife
Soulaimane El-Allali
The couple had met while on holiday in Tenerife
A man who slashed his estranged wife's throat before stabbing her in the heart has been jailed for six years.

Manchester Crown Court was told Soulaimane El-Allali, 36, killed his 34-year-old wife Wendy after she left him.

The jury heard she had returned to the family home in Cheam Road, Timperley, Greater Manchester, in February 2003 to get clothes for their two sons.

While there, Moroccan El-Allali attacked her - stabbing her in the throat and stomach.

But the jury found him not guilty of murder and convicted him of manslaughter after hearing he was suffering from depression and had tried to kill himself after killing his wife.

Gretna Green marriage

Judge Clement Goldstone told the postman: "Your punishment will continue long after your release from prison and you will have to endure it for ever as will her family.

"They must understand that any sentence I pass cannot turn the clock back and I must not allow the sentence to be governed by emotion or sympathy."

The trial had heard how Mrs El-Allali had met her killer while on holiday in Tenerife.

They married in Gretna Green and had two children, but the marriage fell into difficulties and Mrs El-Allali had been planning a divorce before her death.
