Investigation into cell death
The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) is to supervise the investigation into the death of a man who died in court cells in Scarborough on Wednesday.

Robert Turnbull, 44, who was from Scarborough, was arrested at around 0830 GMT for failing to answer court bail and taken to the town's police station.

About an hour later he was transferred by Group 4 officers to their cells at Scarborough Magistrates' Court.

Shortly after 1200 GMT, he was found unconscious and taken to Scarborough Hospital by ambulance where he was found to be dead.

David Petch, who is a member of the PCA, said: "This is a tragic incident and my sympathies go to Mr Turnbull's relatives and friends.

"I will ensure a thorough investigation is carried out on behalf of the coroner."
