The Post Office has announced plans to close five branches in Worcester.
The closure of Astwood Road, Henwick, Lower Wick, Lowesmoor and The Tything post offices is part of a national programme.
Post Office managers said there was no longer enough business in Worcester to support its 19 branches.
In consultation with the sub postmasters, plans have been drawn up to close the five in February 2004.
More than £40,000 will be invested to ensure the future of the remaining 14 post offices.
Even after the changes, more than 95% of residents would still live within a mile of a post office, say managers.
Residents have been given six weeks to submit their views on the proposals before a final decision is made.
