A30 upgrade 'given priority'
A30 between Launceston and Okehampton
There will be a dual carriageway all the way from Exeter to Camborne
Plans to upgrade two stretches of the A30 in the South West are being made a priority, according to the government.

Roads Minister David Jamieson is proposing to create dual carriageways on the road between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross, and the stretch from Temple to Higher Carblake in Cornwall.

The upgrade will support the work to improve the A30 between Bodmin and Indian Queens and at the Merrymeet Roundabout, near Okehampton.

Once the improvements are completed, the A30 will become an uninterrupted dual carriageway between Camborne and the M5 at Exeter.

Safer roads

Mr Jamieson said local people, businesses and visitors to Cornwall would benefit from safer roads and improved journey times.

"This upgrade underlines the government's commitment to investing in the region," he said.

"The new dual carriageways will bring reduced congestion, faster and more reliable journey times, and improve safety.

"These schemes are important to the regional economy and support the work already achieved under Objective One funding in the regeneration of Cornwall's deprived areas."
