An Essex woman is critically ill in hospital after she and her husband were hit by a car as they walked along a path.
The couple had been walking along Gallywood Road at Great Baddow near Chelmsford when a Toyota careered across the road and hit them at about 1930 GMT on Thursday.
Essex Police said the 58-year-old woman from the Great Baddow area was taken to hospital where she was being treated for "life-threatening injuries".
Her 64-year-old husband was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, a 38-year-old man from Chelmsford, was arrested at the scene of the accident.
