Man dies in hit-and-run

A 71-year-old man has died after a hit-and-run smash in Lancashire.

The pedestrian was crossing the A682 Colne Road in Burnley when the collision happened.

The man, who was from Burnley, died from his injuries at the scene.

Police appealed for witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 2345 GMT on Thursday, to come forward.

They also urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the driver and his vehicle to contact them.

Colne Road was due to remain closed until about 1100 GMT on Friday while the scene was investigated.
