Fresh start offered for school
A decision on the future of a struggling Worcester school is being left to the teachers and parents of pupils who use it.

The result could seal the fate of Elbury Mount Primary which was placed on special measures earlier this month for the second time in five years.

Local education chiefs called on the school's governors to resign and head teacher Kay Morgan left the school two weeks ago.

Worcester County Council now wants the governors and teachers, as well as parents and the local community, to choose whether the school should be given a fresh start.

It would mean closing the school at the end of August next year and opening a replacement school on the same site the following day.

A council spokesman said £4m pounds had been invested in Elbury Mount and the current situation couldn't be allowed to continue.

A consultation paper on the issue is to be published before the council meets again to look at the school's situation in February.
