South Show cancelled

The South Show has not featured a cattle section for several years
A major show organiser says the cancellation of next year's South Show in Guernsey is disappointing.

The president of the North Show committee, Bob Marquis, says he is not sure why it has happened, as he has always enjoyed the South Show and found it good fun.

Mr Marquis thinks the problems have accumulated over time and the show, which is usually held in the parish of St Martins, has been struggling with too few helpers.

He says the show, which provides the setting for the first leg of Guernsey's annual trilogy of traditional summer agricultural shows, will be sorely missed, but hopes this news will spur people into volunteering to help save it.

The show has not featured a cattle section for several years and there were severe problems finding people to organise the fur and feather section in 2002.

Mr Marquis says he feels the South Show is a major part of Guernsey's summer entertainment and the North Show committee will help out where it can, but it cannot organise the whole event.
